What's caught my eye apart from the spectacular Avengers movie which has caught everyone by storm is the Avengers: EMH cartoon on Disney XD, and I'm just so amazed by how good that show is! I'm still bitter that Hank Pym wasn't part of the Avengers lineup in the movie, but at least EMH made up for that absence. Inspired by this snub, I decided that Pym would be the first of back-to-back submissions inspired by that amazing cartoon show, and without further ado here he is in his original persona, Ant-Man!
Out of all of Pym's many identities, Ant-Man is still my favorite, and I really prefer it more than Yellowjacket and Goliath among others. I always loved his crimson outfit, and for the costume I took reference from the cartoon as compared to the original red and blue colours from the comic books. I love how all the colours matched together seamlessly, and the reds, blacks, silvers, all went well together along with the bright blue effects on his belt and headpiece.
When planning to do Ant-Man, I concluded that drawing him on his own would be too bland and boring, and I had to find a way to add some spice to the piece. With this in mind, I portrayed Pym shrinking from Giant Man into Ant-Man! It's not as easy as it looks, and I had to draw Giant Man four different times so that the proportions and angles are all even with one another, so no that isn't just one Giant Man scaled up to three other sizes!
I think the "shrinking effect" really shows the Pym Particles at work, and I'm glad I was able to portray Ant-Man/Giant Man in such a way that his powers would carry unto a two-dimensional drawing. Like I said, I plan to do another piece that has some relation to Pym, and I hope to finish that second piece by next week. I'm sure it wont be too difficult for anyone to guess who it is if you're a true Avengers fan!
I bet it's Wasp.
